FURLOUGH REQUEST DENIED FOR MAN WHO FATALLY SHOT ANOTHER IN CUMBERLAND CO.

A man who fatally shot another in Cumberland County will remain in jail after a furlough request was denied. The encounter happened on New Year’s Day of this year when 27-year-old Douglas Lee Deck killed 58-year-old Paul Jonathan Wing at a home on Sandy Creek Road. Wing was reportedly trespassing on the property at the time of the shooting. After the TBI investigated the act, Deck was only charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to two years and one day to serve. An attorney for Deck recently asked Judge Gary McKenzie to grant a leave for Deck so he could attend rehabilitation. That motion was denied.
