GAS LINE RUPTURE CAUSES AREA CLOSURE IN OLIVER SPRINGS
BBBTV12 – According to Oliver Springs Police Chief David Laxton, an area around Cove Lane and Lookout Avenue was closed Monday evening after a gas line rupture caused by collapsing trusses inside the old Tupper Town Community Center. The incident occurred just after 6:30 PM, leading to the evacuation of several residents.
The Powell Clinch Utility District responded to the scene after the Oliver Springs Fire Department roped off the area. The gas leak was contained about an hour and a half later by shutting off a valve. The strong smell of gas permeated the area around the community center, which is currently being renovated into an Airbnb by a new owner from Georgia.
Chief Laxton also mentioned that the building inspector has been on site today to assess the structural damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
