HAMILTON COUNTY BOE DISCUSSES PHASING OUT CONTRACTED SERVICES
The Hamilton County School Board is considering taking over busing students after last November’s deadly crash which killed six students. Last week, officials talked about phasing out contracted services of Durham and bringing in more independent contractors. The school system could save an average of $1.9 million annually by taking over, but they would have to first buy a new fleet of busses. Durham School Services is paid $11 million a year now. The driver during the fatal wreck was working for Durham and had been heard to have made unstable remarks from students on the bus in the past.
