HARRIMAN CITY COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW
The Harriman City Council is scheduled to hold its meeting on Tuesday evening, February 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Harriman City Hall. The agenda includes standard reports from the Treasurer, City Attorney, and City Manager, followed by several items of new business.
The council will discuss and potentially approve the appointment of Councilwoman Cheryl Laxton to the Regional Planning Commission for a term ending in October 2027.
They will also consider two resolutions: one proclaiming April 2026 as Autism Awareness Month and April 2, 2026, as World Autism Awareness Day, and another authorizing the city to apply for participation in the Tennessee Downtowns Program, a downtown revitalization education and grant initiative offered by the Tennessee Main Street Program and the Department of Economic and Community Development.
Additional items include possible approval to purchase a 2012 Ford 450 Bucket Truck for $19,000, entering into a $6,500 contract with Haines Structural Group for a structural assessment of the Temperance Building, and final reading of Ordinance 0226-01, which amends Title 9, Chapter 3 of the Harriman Municipal Code concerning video arcades, pool rooms, bowling alleys, and similar establishments.
Finally, the council will discuss and potentially adopt Resolution R0226-03, a joint resolution urgently requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to implement comprehensive safety measures, infrastructure improvements, and better coordination on Interstate 40 and state highways within Roane County.
