HARRIMAN CONTINUES SEARCH FOR NEW CITY MANAGER; CLAIMS OVER 100 APPLICANTS TO CONSIDER
During its regular session at City Hall on Tuesday evening, June 16, the Harriman City Council addressed several key municipal updates and financial decisions. The city attorney kicked off the meeting with an update on the search for a new city manager, noting that the city has received an overwhelming response of over 100 applications, which will be narrowed down for interviews over the next two weeks. Moving into new business, the council approved a budgeted $5,000 contribution to the Cornstalk Heights Historic Community Organization. They also greenlit a proposal from the Harriman Utility Board to provide fiber internet services to the Harriman Municipal Building and auxiliary facilities under a five-year contract, officially transitioning away from their previous provider, Comcast.
On the financial front, the council authorized allocating up to $300,000 from the Capital Projects Fund into a six-month certificate of deposit with One Bank to earn interest on funds that will remain unused for the next year. Additionally, they approved the first reading of an ordinance to amend the city’s annual budget for the fiscal year, which was followed by a dedicated budget work session immediately after the main meeting. To wrap up the session, the Mayor successfully asked the council to waive the five-day rule to add a special called meeting to the agenda. This special session is scheduled for June 30 at 6:00 p.m. for the final passage of the budget, and it will be preceded by a public hearing on the proposed budget at 5:45 p.m.
