HARRIMAN RESIDENTS GETTING FAKE POLICE CALLS SAYING “WE HAVE A WARRANT AND YOU’RE GOING TO BE ARRESTED”
Harriman Police are reporting a phone scam going around that scares people into thinking they’re going to be arrested. The following was posted on Harriman’s Police Facebook page:
We have received complaints of a possible phone scam. There is a group of people who are possibly spoofing the Harriman Police Department phone number that will call and say you have a warrant. They will tell you to call a different number. If you receive one of these calls, do not fall into their trap. Simply hang up on them. You can call us 865-882-3383 to verify.
If an officer from the Harriman Police Department calls you, they will identify themselves. These scammers will not. HPD will only call you for official business like a case follow up. We will not be calling you to tell you that you have a warrant.
