SMOKE COVERS HALF OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY TUESDAY, CITIZENS CONCERNED
We got some calls Tuesday afternoon from concerned residents over ‘lots of smoke’ lingering over the county. One caller said it looked like half the county was on fire. A check with the County Fire Department told us that TWRA was doing a prescribed burn on the Catoosa Wildlife Preserve – a controlled burn. It was explained to us this way: A prescribed burn is designed to help clear the forest bed to promote the regrowth of a more diverse habitat. Prescribed fires prepare sites for seeding of native grasses, control insects and diseases, as well as improving habitats for wildlife.
