HEAT HOLDS ON BEFORE STORM CHANCES INCREASE

Regional Forecast — Cumberland Plateau & Tennessee Valley

Dangerous heat will continue through the Independence Day weekend with Heat Advisories in effect Thursday. Afternoon temperatures will remain well into the 90s, and heat index values will reach 100 to 104 degrees. Only isolated afternoon storms are expected through Saturday before rain chances increase Sunday and Monday.

Thursday: Heat Advisory. Mostly sunny and very hot. Highs around 93 on the Cumberland Plateau and 96 in the Tennessee Valley. Heat index values up to 99 degrees on the Plateau and 104 degrees in the Valley. A stray afternoon thunderstorm is possible.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, becoming mostly clear overnight. Lows around 73 on the Plateau and 74 in the Valley. A brief evening shower or thunderstorm is possible.

Friday: Sunny and very hot with scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms possible. Highs around 94 on the Plateau and 97 in the Valley. Heat index values up to 101 degrees on the Plateau and 104 degrees in the Valley. Chance of rain 30 percent.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of evening showers and thunderstorms. Lows around 71 on the Plateau and 73 in the Valley. Chance of rain 20 to 30 percent.

Independence Day: Mostly sunny and hot with isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Highs around 92 on the Plateau and 95 in the Valley. Chance of rain 20 to 30 percent.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of evening showers and thunderstorms. Lows around 71 on the Plateau and 73 in the Valley. Chance of rain 30 percent.

Sunday: Mostly sunny with scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Highs around 90 on the Plateau and 93 in the Valley. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of lingering showers and thunderstorms. Lows around 70 on the Plateau and 72 in the Valley. Chance of rain up to 30 percent.
