HEAVY RAIN RESULTS IN FLOODED ROADS AND ACCIDENTS

Moderate to heavy rainfall that started early yesterday morning cleared off of the plateau late this afternoon but when it was said and done, many roads were left flooded and several accidents were reported. The Cumberland County Road Department reported numerous roads under water including Highway 70 North underneath I-40, southbound lanes of Highway 127 North at Potato Farm Road, the intersection of 10th Street and West Avenue, the 3600th block of Genesis Road and Highway 127 North at Legion Road. Three accidents were also reported on Interstate 40 in Cumberland County yesterday. In Roane County, several roads were reported flooded and the road department responded quickly deploying signs to warn drivers and block the roads that became water covered. Officials say the Oliver Springs area was hardest hit. In Anderson County, crews responded to a car that was stuck in floodwaters on Mountain Road while Highway 61, Old Valley Road, Key Springs Road and Indian Gap Road were water covered at times. In McMinn County, Highway 307 was flooded and in Rhea County, road crews reported parts of Highway 30 and 302 that were under water. The area will have a brief drying out period before yet another storm system will bring rain late Tuesday night into Wednesday.
