HEAVY RAINFALL CREATES FLOODING CONDITIONS IN MANY AREAS

Over an hour or so of heavy rainfall in Cumberland County east towards near Knovxille late yesterday set up flooding conditions.

Around 5 p.m. central, thunderstorms broke out on the plateau and in the valley dumping just over 2 inches of rain in a short time. However, radar estimated amounts placed it between 3 to 4 inches on the plateau. It resulted in many roadways covered in water. Several accidents were reported, including on Interstate 40.

Around 7 p.m. central, most of the drenching rain pushed southwest off of the plateau.

Weather officials say there is a good chance of rain today (Monday, July 19, 2021) which would set up more flooding conditions.

If traveling, use caution and do not attempt to cross a roadway with water over it. It does not take much at all for hydroplaning to happen. Any moderate to excessive rainfall across the area could result in flash flooding.
