HIGH-SPEED CHASE ENDS WITH ARREST OF MOTORCYCLIST IN CROSSVILLE

A Crossville police officer arrested a motorcyclist late last week after a high-speed chase.
The arrest report released late yesterday states the officer saw 18-year-old Gabriel E. Newton of Sparta traveling at an estimated 85 miles per hour, passing vehicles.
The pursuit started near the airport and headed east to the traffic light at Tennessee Avenue and the Northwest Connector.
Newton reportedly failed to stop at the red light and went head-on with traffic as he cut around oncoming vehicles. Police say Newton accelerated again at a high rate of speed.
Newton turned onto Holiday Drive and stopped.
He was arrested for reckless endangerment and evading arrest. He was also issued citations for violation of the light law (no brake light) and having an expired registration.
