BBBTV12 – A high-speed pursuit that began in Rockwood ended near Spring City this afternoon after a suspect fled from a traffic stop attempt.

Around noon, a Rockwood police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle on Burke Mill Road after noticing an expired tag. Instead of stopping, the driver—later identified as Elmer Steelman—sped away, leading officers on a southbound chase down Highway 27 into Rhea County.

The pursuit continued for several miles until Stellman was finally forced to stop near Spring City with the assistance of Rhea County deputies and possibly Spring City police officers.

Steelman was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Roane County Jail, where he remains at this time.

Authorities are still finalizing the official report, and additional details may be released as the investigation continues.
