HIGH SPEED CHASE INVOLVING THEFT SUSPECT ENDS WITH HIS ARREST

A high speed pursuit in Crossville and out into the county before sunrise Sunday ended with an arrest. Officers located a vehicle on North Main Street next to I-40 matching a description of a lookout regarding catalytic converter thefts. The report states 40-year-old Shayne Dewitte of Cookeville got into the suspected automobile and took off leading law enforcement on a chase involving I-40 west to Monterey then on Highway 70 North back into Cumberland County.

Dewitte turned onto Junior Camp Road and traveled on Camp Nakawa Road to Mayland Road and back onto Highway 70 North.

Deputies successfully set up spike strips on Highway 70 North at Plateau Road.

The chase ended on the 7,000 block of Plateau Road where Dewitte crashed and was taken into custody. Two cut off catalytic converters were supposedly found in the automobile Dewitte was operating. Also seized included a Sawzall and two spare blazes for it.
