HIGHLIGHTS FROM CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEETING – MAY 11, 2021
The Crossville City Council met last night for their regular monthly session. Highlights include:
Members gave approval for an application to go to the U.S. Department of Justice for grant money to purchase police vests.
Mayor James Mayberry appointed Gladys McNeal to serve on the Crossville Housing Authority board for five years.
WATER LEVEL AT HOLIDAY LAKE AND PROPOSED INDOOR RECREATION CENTER
The council took no action for maintaining the water level of Holiday Lake. They also deferred action on property for a proposed indoor recreation facility off of Genesis Road. It is expected to be reviewed at a special called session May 18, 2021 to see if the city wishes to participate in an auction for the land on May 27, 2021.
REPORT FROM CROSSVILLE-CUMBERLAND COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Ethan Hadley with the Crossville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce spoke to the council. He said they are involved in around a dozen new projects regarding economic development as well as working to establish a new chamber website for prospective businesses and citizens wishing to relocate here. Hadley concluded with saying an announcement regarding a new company coming in will be made next month (June 2021).
CITY MANAGER REPORT
Crossville City Manager Greg Wood informed the council sales tax collections is over $654,000, up from around $50,000 for the same time last year. “We continue to see growth in this area,” said Wood.
Wholesale beer tax collections is just below $611,000 while liquor tax collection for the year is around $523,000.
The city saw an increase in revenue from the hotel/motel tax to $11,000.
“Building permits remain strong despite an increase of prices for supplies,” said Wood.
