HINDS TURNS HERSELF IN AFTER HIT-AND-RUN CRASH THAT KILLED CHATTANOOGA POLICE OFFICER
Wanted on charges of vehicular homicide in the Saturday-night death of Chattanooga Police Officer Nicholas Galinger, 54-year-old Janet Elaine Hinds turned herself in to authorities. Hinds surrendered to Chattanooga police this morning.
Hinds had been added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top Ten Most-Wanted List.
The 38-year-old Galinger had been inspecting a manhole cover with water flowing from it late Saturday night when a northbound vehicle struck him and fled the scene. Galinger was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Galinger, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, had graduated from the police academy in January.
Chattanooga Police Chief David Roddy had enlisted the public’s help in locating the suspect vehicle, a late-model Honda CRV with substantial front-end damage. Roddy told reporters Sunday, “The department, this community, lost not just an officer, but a son, a father, a friend and a protector.”
