ROCKSLIDE FORCES ROAD CLOSURES IN GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
Authorities in Sevier County say Newfound Gap Road/Hwy 441 is closed due to a rockslide in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The slide occurred several miles from the Sugarlands Visitor Center, not far from the Carlos Campbell Overlook.
Park authorities confirmed the road will be closed at least through today, while crews clear away debris, assess what needs to be done and determine how long cleanup could take.
Minor slides and downed trees have also affected travel on Little River Road.
Authorities cleared a rockslide on the Spur over the weekend, where minor debris still remains at the roadside.
