HOME OF 2019 HOMICIDE IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY DESTROYED BY FIRE

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a residential fire last night at 2593 Vandever Road.

There is little released by authorities at this time regarding the blaze other than the structure was a total loss.

The sheriff’s office will release more information soon.

The home is the exact location of a homicide that took place back on March 12, 2019, where John Patrick Fields was arrested after he shot three people.

Officers say 23-year-old MaKayla Laray Manning died in the shooting. Authorities say Joseph Manning and Eleashea Alene Curry, both from Crossville, were wounded.

Earlier in the evening, the body of 47-year-old Lowell “Chip” Simmons II of Crossville, was found in a trash pile in a vacant lot on Critter Creek Road. Fields was charged with his murder.

Fields, now 50 years old, was sentenced last year to life in prison. He has to serve a minimum of 51 years to be eligible for parole.
