HOMEOWNER FOILS BURGLARY ATTEMPT, SUSPECT TASERED AND ARRESTED AFTER FLEEING

On February 16, 2026, at approximately 8:41 p.m., Crossville Police officers, including Sgt. Chrystal Massey, were dispatched to a residence on Hillsway regarding an active burglary in progress where the suspect was reported to have a firearm. Upon arrival, Sgt. Massey observed a broken window on the front door and unholstered her duty pistol to clear the area. Dispatch then reported shots fired. A male subject emerged from the garage armed with a firearm but identified himself as the homeowner and directed officers toward a fleeing suspect heading toward Southway. Sgt. Massey soon learned via radio from Mptl. Foster that he had located the suspect at a residence on Hillsway.

As Sgt. Massey arrived, and she observed Mptl. Foster was in a foot pursuit of a male subject in an orange shirt, issuing commands with his taser unholstered. The suspect refused to stop or comply despite two ineffective taser deployments by Mptl. Foster. Sgt. Massey deployed her taser once ineffectively, then a second time successfully, with probes striking the subject’s back, causing him to fall.

Officers then took him into custody. A search revealed no firearm on the suspect, who was identified as Daniel Boles via his driver’s license. Mptl. Freeman transported Daniel Boles to the Cumberland County Justice Center for intake.

Back at the residence, Sgt. Massey spoke with the homeowners, who described hearing loud bangs at the front door while on the couch with their baby. One homeowner grabbed his firearm after the door window was kicked in and observed Daniel Boles at the door. Verbal warnings were given that entry would result in being shot; Daniel Boles claimed he needed help before fleeing.

Officers noted muddy boot prints on the door, damage to the knob preventing it from opening, and a fallen, damaged window, with total property damage estimated at approximately $3,000. Body camera footage captured the damage, and a request was sent to retain any relevant video from the homeowners.

Daniel Boles was charged with aggravated burglary and evading arrest.
