Tennessee lawmakers were told yesterday the state is rapidly preparing to convert convention centers, college dorms, hotels and other facilities into makeshift hospitals. The rapid rise of coronavirus patients is now threatening to strain if not break state resources. Officials say the next two to four weeks will be a critical test of state resources.

New data from the University of Washington released yesterday shows the coronavirus outbreak could peak in Tennessee April 19, 2020, with the state needing nearly 15,000 hospital beds. Just over 7,800 beds are currently available. The data also shows 2,300 ICU beds needed out of only 630 available. At the peak of the coronavirus in Tennessee, the University of Washington data suggests Tennessee will see 159 COVID-19 deaths per day and 3,259 deaths in the state by August 4, 2020.
