HUMAN REMAINS FOUND AT MICHIGAN RESIDENCE PREVIOUSLY OWNED BY MAN KILLED IN SHOOT-OUT IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Michigan authorities say a human skull was located in a fire pit at a home in Trenton once owned by 57-year-old Mark Alan Eberly. He was killed in a recent shootout with a Cumberland County deputy.

The discovery was made last night. Investigators also found bone fragments. The remains were sent off for a positive identification. Officers say Eberly had frequent fires going in the pit prior to leaving around March 2020. Eberly lived in the dwelling with a female but so far officers have not located her.

Eberly died after shots were exchanged with Deputy Tim Tutor back on June 27, 2020. Initial reports state Eberly opened the door of his vehicle after being pulled over, discharged his firearm and hit Tutor in the upper chest. Tutor returned fire as Eberly drove off a short distance then stopped. A SWAT team discovered Eberly deceased after a standoff. Tutor is recovering from the shooting.
