IMPROVEMENTS PROGRESSING TO OLD COURTHOUSE IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

The Cumberland County Building and Grounds Committee received an update yesterday about improvements to the old courthouse in downtown Crossville.

Crews are removing all shrubs around the building and the two large Holly trees in front of the old courthouse (seen in the picture with this story).

So far, the old courthouse renovation is progressing with no issues.

During last month’s Cumberland County Commission meeting, members unanimously approved the low bid of $2,999,750 for the renovations at the courthouse, including a complete HVAC replacement. As a reference, the original estimate was for up to $3.9 million. The money will come from existing funds, including the $2 million grant from Tennessee Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton and Senator Paul Bailey and debt service reserves. Conservative budgeting will allow the county to pay for the courthouse work with reserves. Officials say no new debt will be required.

As far as renovations to the Cumberland County Archives building, the project is progressing despite weather delays.
