INCIDENT ON NEW HIGHWAY 68 UNDER INVESTIGATION

From Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones:
On the evening of Sunday, October 5, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with Madisonville Police Department, responded to a report of a vehicle stopped partially in the roadway on New Highway 68 at Turnpike Road. Callers reported that the driver appeared to be unresponsive inside the vehicle.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers made contact with the driver, who exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued the driver and deployed their Tasers, though the deployment had no effect on the individual. The subject was eventually apprehended but began aggressively resisting arrest. During the struggle, the subject became unresponsive once again.
Officers immediately began administering CPR and Narcan until EMS arrived on scene just moments later. The individual was transported to Sweetwater Hospital by EMS, where he was later pronounced deceased.
This incident has been referred to the Tenth Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is currently conducting the investigation.
