On Friday, June 10th, 2022, Sparta-White County Rescue Squad was dispatched at 2:43 pm, to the Virgin Falls State Park area, to assist a hiker who had become incapacitated due to injuries. Knowing the location, Rescue immediately requested mutual aid from Cumberland County Rescue Squad, who not only responded but brought along Cumberland Co Fire Dept and Cumberland County EMA.
Complex rope systems were established across the gorge, with the patient being packaged into a stokes basket, transported across to an awaiting UTV, and being transported to the landing zone, at approximately 6pm. A big thanks goes out to all the agencies mentioned earlier, and also Tennessee State Parks, White County Sheriff Deputies, White County Ambulance Service, the helicopter service that flew to the scene Erlanger Life force and the members of Sparta-White Rescue.
