The owner of a Jamestown funeral home has been arrested and hit with a 52-count indictment following a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation probe into deceptive business practices, theft, and the alleged mishandling of cremated remains.

Chadrick “Chad” Mundy, 37, owner of Mundy Funeral Home, became the target of a TBI investigation in May at the request of 8th Judicial District Attorney General Jared Effler. Investigators discovered evidence that Mundy filed numerous fraudulent burial policy insurance claims, financially exploited elderly and vulnerable clients for personal gain, and mishandled cremated remains.

On Wednesday, the Fentress County Grand Jury formally indicted Mundy on 52 counts, including insurance fraud, multiple counts of theft, financial exploitation of an elderly or vulnerable adult, abuse of a corpse, criminal simulation, and passing worthless checks. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon and booked into the Fentress County Jail on an $80,000 bond.

Authorities remind the public that the charges are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
