JAMESTOWN MAN ARRESTED AFTER HIGH-SPEED CHASE THROUGH MULTIPLE COUNTIES

On December 7, a 52-year-old man from Jamestown, Tennessee, named Stephen Pyles, led law enforcement on a dangerous high-speed chase across Dade and Marion Counties after deputies attempted to stop him for an equipment violation on his vehicle. Pyles evaded initial attempts to pull him over by making a U-turn back onto the interstate, speeding north across the state line, and continuing to flee even after a deputy performed a PIT maneuver that spun his car around.
During the pursuit, he collided head-on with a Dade County sergeant’s vehicle, yet continued driving a heavily damaged car into Marion County, where deputies took over. The chase ended when Pyles crashed under an overpass at State Route 28 and US 41 in Jasper; after stopping, he allegedly fired two shots at approaching officers, though no law enforcement returned fire. Officers surrounded and extracted him from the vehicle when he failed to drive away again. Pyles was found in possession of three guns, approximately half a pound each of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine, and $28,000 in cash, and he had multiple outstanding felony warrants.
He faces charges from Marion County for shooting at officers and other offenses, plus Dade County warrants for drug trafficking, felony fleeing, and various traffic violations. No deputies were seriously injured, and Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross praised the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies, emphasizing that the arrest removed a dangerous individual who was “poisoning our loved ones” from the streets.
