JAMESTOWN MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG POSSESSION AFTER TRAFFIC STOP

In the predawn hours of Saturday morning, Crossville Police stopped a vehicle driven by 50-year-old Walter Fred Beaty of Jamestown along North Main Street. Beaty’s vehicle had multiple light-law violations, including a bright and rapidly strobing white light he claimed was a fog light, his backing lights staying on and emitting white light to the rear of the vehicle and a non-functional brake light.

The displayed registration belonged on another vehicle, and a plastic bottle top on the dashboard in plain view contained a crystalline residue. Beaty stated someone else in the vehicle had recently been arrested for “dope.” He consented to a search of his person and the vehicle.

Police found a syringe in one of his pockets; he admitted to abusing and injecting Suboxone. A search of the vehicle turned up a small plastic bag concealed within the torn driver’s-side sun visor. The bag contained an intact Suboxone tablet and two smaller pieces of Suboxone tablets. According to the arrest report, “Beaty claimed the narcotics were not his because he only abused Suboxone sublingual strips.”

Beaty was cited for simple possession of Schedule III narcotics. The drugs were seized and the syringe destroyed.
