JOEL GREGORY RICE FACES MULTIPLE FELONIES WITH BOND REVOKED AHEAD OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY COURT DEADLINE

Local resident Joel Gregory Rice is slated for a Cumberland County Circuit Court deadline hearing on October 20, 2026, facing a comprehensive suite of serious felony charges spanning drug manufacturing, violent endangerment, and high-speed evading arrest. His bond has been officially revoked, and he remains in custody with representation from attorney Jeff Vires.
The charges stem from two separate 2024 enforcement actions led by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department:
  • The November 2024 Drug Case: Following a consent search during an overdose investigation at a Coyote Court residence, deputies recovered a large cache of narcotics and cash, including over 270 fentanyl pills, methamphetamine, ecstasy, LSD, prescription opioids, and more than $11,000 in cash.
  • The January 2025 Pursuit Case: Rice allegedly fled from law enforcement at speeds reaching 116 mph on Lantana Road, dangerously passing traffic in no-passing zones before returning to the Coyote Court address. He then allegedly rammed a patrol vehicle in reverse, struck a second cruiser, and physically resisted arrest before being subdued.
Rice’s upcoming court appearance will address multiple counts, including manufacturing and delivering Schedule I drugs, methamphetamine possession with intent, aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment via vehicle, and multiple counts of evading arrest and reckless driving.
