JUVENILE AND PARENT CHARGED AFTER THREATS AT HARRIMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL

From the Roane County Sheriff’s Office:
On August 15, 2025, the administration at Harriman Middle School received reports that a student had made previous threatening statements directed toward students and staff. The School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to the school quickly located the juvenile and initiated an investigation.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the juvenile’s father, Kevin M. Johnson, admitted to having knowledge of these threatening statements but failed to report them to the school or law enforcement authorities.
As a result of the investigation:
• The juvenile was safely taken into custody and charged with a threat of mass violence on school property.
• The father, Kevin M. Johnson, was charged with failure to report a threat of mass violence on school property or at a school-related activity.
Thanks to the swift action of the school administration and the Roane County School Resource Officer, the situation was addressed without harm to students or staff.
The Roane County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Roane County Schools and the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, emphasizes that threats of violence in schools are taken extremely seriously. Such behaviors will not be tolerated, and individuals who engage in or fail to report them will be held accountable.
