KATELYN CARPENTER FROM CCHS PRESENTED ‘PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY’ AWARD
Cumberland County High School Senior Katelyn Carpenter has been named the Prudential Spirit of Community Award Honoree for Tennessee. The program honors middle and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state and national level. She received a medal at the Cumberland County Board of Education meeting last night.
Carpenter prepares core packages of canned and boxed meal items every weekend for more than 60 elementary school students who lack a reliable source of food at home. Katelyn got started with the project after presenting it to her church’s finance committee, who contributed $1,500. The project grew from there and Katelyn now has more than 20 volunteers from her church put together the care packages every week.
