KCSO IDENTIFIES MAN WHO DIED AFTER DRIVING CAR INTO FLOODED WEST KNOXVILLE STREET
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office reported 59-year-old Christopher J. Doody died after driving into floodwaters in West Knoxville overnight Saturday.
Witnesses told Rural Metro Fire they tried to yell at Doody to stop as he drove into the water on South Peters Road near Ebenezer Road.
KCSO said deputies were dispatched minutes after midnight.
Rural Metro firefighters and divers from Knox County Rescue pulled the man from his car, which had been submerged in floodwaters.
Emergency responders transported Doody to Parkwest Hospital, where he died. Rural Metro Fire could not determine how long he had been in the water.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
Rural Metro Fire reminds drivers not to enter floodwaters, because there is no way to tell how deep the water is, or the condition of the roadway underneath.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office cautioned drivers to not drive through water unless they can see the pavement.
