KENTUCKY MAN ARRESTED AFTER HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT

A high-speed pursuit through Laurel County, Kentucky, ended with an arrest and a damaged police cruiser. Officers attempted to stop a black SUV driven by 45-year-old Jason Lay of Covington, which was traveling 80 m.p.h. on Kentucky 80. Lay reportedly evaded police and subsequently accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 mph. While in pursuit, police say a license-plate check revealed the suspect vehicle was reported stolen from Covington. The chase went into Pulaski County where spike strips were used in an attempt to stop Lay. A deputy used his police cruiser to intervene, striking the vehicle Lay was driving in the side. The officer sustained minor injuries, and his cruiser was damaged. Lay was arrested and charged with seventy-seven counts of wanton endangerment regarding the numerous vehicles he passed during the pursuit. Lay was also charged with receiving stolen property and several traffic violations.
