KG FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH OLIVER SPRINGS P.D. FOR AUTISM AWARENESS AND SAFETY
The KG Foundation has partnered with the Oliver Springs Police Department in Oliver Springs, Tennessee, to donate sensory bags for use in patrol vehicles. Jennifer King of the KG Foundation joined officers to commemorate the initiative, which aims to improve interactions between law enforcement and individuals on the autism spectrum or those with sensory processing challenges.
The sensory bags contain calming resources such as noise-reducing headphones, fidget tools, and other items designed to help regulate sensory input, reduce anxiety, and facilitate better communication during stressful or overwhelming situations.
This partnership equips officers with practical tools to de-escalate encounters that might otherwise be misunderstood due to differences in communication styles, eye contact, or responses to authority. By providing these resources, the initiative promotes safer, more compassionate, and supportive outcomes for everyone involved.
A representative from the Oliver Springs Police Department emphasized that the effort is about giving officers the necessary tools to better serve all members of the community. The KG Foundation continues its mission of advocating for individuals with special needs through awareness, accessibility, and community partnerships across East Tennessee, ensuring that people of all abilities are treated with understanding and respect.
