The Kingston Yellow Jackets basketball team defeated Sullivan East 79 to 65 to advance into the Elite 8 for the TSSAA state championship. Kingston was led in scoring by Colby Raymer with 29 points. He was followed by Neal with 24, Heidle with 10, Luttrell with 8, and Boles and Chop with 4 each.

Kingston now joins Greeneville, Bolivar Central, Pearl Cohn, Upperman, Community, Howard and J. South Side as the final eight teams in contention for the Class 2A state title.

The Yellow Jackets first opponent in the Elite 8 will be Community (23-7) at 10 a.m. central Thursday, March 18, 2021 in the Murphy Center at MTSU in Murfreesboro. The winner of the game will advance into the Final Four Friday, March 19, 2021 at 4 p.m. central to play the winner of the Howard/J.South Side game.

This will be the Yellow Jackets eighth appearance in school history for the championship. Kingston was in it back in 1991, 1979, 1976, 1966, 1965, 1964, and 1963.

Just three more games and if successful in all, Kingston will bring the state championship home to Roane County.
