Kirk Von Martin, 67

Hood – Kirk Von Martin, 67, of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, sadly left this world on May 13, 2025.
Kirk was born on July 9, 1957, in Dearborn Michigan, Kirk was the beloved son of Bette L.
Purdie, and Dennis and Cathleen Purdie. Kirk married Sherry Martin in 1995 in East Lansing, Michigan. They spent 30 years together finding adventures, loving their children, traveling, and endless building and remodeling projects which they enthusiastically shared with their family and friends.
Kirk was so proud of his sons, Brendan Martin (and wife Shannon), Andrew Martin, and Ryan
Richardson (and wife Robin). He felt blessed to be “Papa” to Georgia and Camille, daughters of
Ryan and Robin, he loved spending time with them and hated that they were so far away.
As a graduate of the University of Michigan, “GO BLUE” was Kirk’s theme. He also earned
his Master’s Degree with honors from Cleary University. His career began at the Fiero Plant in
Michigan, where he became a Master Pipefitter. He then owned his own business, Mid-State
Fluid Power, with offices in Lansing and Flint, Michigan. After its successful growth, he sold
Mid-State and became a Technology Sales Executive with leading voice and data companies.
He finished his career as the Asset Manager for Lake Trust Credit Union.
Kirk loved to play and coach Hockey, win card games, and fix anything. He found endless
satisfaction (and frustration) on the golf course. He loved music and wood working and loved
turning raw lumber into something beautiful. Friends and family often gathered around the
handcrafted home bars he built, or helped them build—each one stamped with his trademark
blend of sturdy craftsmanship and humble generosity.
He is also survived by his siblings, Will (Connie) Martin, Karen Helton, Mike (Dede) Sterling,
Kim Sterling, Jeff (Mary) Sterling, Pam (Brian) Baker, and Leslie (Doug) Nitchman, along with
many nieces and nephews, his beloved sister-in-law Debi (Jerry) LaFour and brother-in-law
Doug (Velma) Herzberg and lifelong friends who will miss his easy laugh and can-do spirit.
Kirk’s memorial will be held Saturday, May 17, 1PM at Fairfield Glade United Methodist
Church and all are invited to a casual celebration of Kirk’s life at St. George Pavillion, Fairfield
Glade.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Fairfield Glade Sportsman Club at 650 Shorty
Barnes Road, Crossville TN honoring Kirk’s involvement in the club and legacy of helping
others.
Kirk’s kindness, craftsmanship, and steady presence will live on in every swing of a golf club
and each lovingly mended household fix his family and friends encounter.
