KNOXVILLE OFFICER ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE AFTER DOMESTIC CHARGE

The Knoxville Police Department has placed an officer on administrative leave following a charge Wednesday morning. Officer Charles Roach, age 34  was arrested May 18 on a misdemeanor charge after Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a “domestic matter” at his home.

Roach allegedly woke up the victim and their children and threw the victim’s phone in the backyard. The victim attempted to call 911 from an IPAD after she was unable to locate her phone in the yard. The victim said Roach shoved her against a wall before she took the children into the bathroom and locked the door. According to the report, Roach broke the door frame of the bathroom and threw her cellphone into the bathroom to her.

The officer had been off-duty at the time of his arrest by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Roach had been assigned to KPD’s Patrol Unit. Currently, Roach remains on administrative leave with his police powers suspended. The Internal Affairs Unit will conduct an investigation pending the outcome of criminal proceedings.
