A Cookeville man has died as the result of a Tuesday night accident in Putnam County. John Kontour, 61 was the passenger of James Romines, 48. They were traveling in a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro in Putnam County when his vehicle went on the side of the roadway, striking a large pile of rocks. The vehicle then overturned and came to a rest on the side of the roadway. John Kontour was killed in the accident. Romines sustained injuries.

According to the preliminary Highway Patrol report, Romines had been consuming alcohol, and citations and criminal charges are pending.
