Crossville police arrested Nikki Lea McCowan of Knoxville at Cumberland County Bank on West Avenue yesterday on charges of passing a bad check.

According to the arrest report, McCowan told police two men picked her up in Knoxville, drove her to the bank and gave her the check in the amount of $7,148.13. She said the men had a bag of fake checks they’d “picked up around the stop sign on Underwood Street connecting to North Main Street.”

The owner of the check told police he did not write the check.
