KNOXVILLE WOMAN DIES IN OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING AFTER HOURS-LONG STANDOFF
On December 23, 2025, authorities in Knoxville, Tennessee, responded to reports of a suicidal woman in the parking lot of a Weigel’s convenience store at the intersection of Callahan Drive and Central Avenue Pike. The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies worked to resolve the situation safely, closing Callahan Drive shortly after 5 p.m. and evacuating all employees and customers from the store.
The standoff continued for several hours, and around 10:53 p.m., two KCSO deputies fired their weapons. EMS personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the woman succumbed to her injuries. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case to examine the circumstances, including the reasons the deputies discharged their firearms. The road remained closed late into the night as the investigation proceeded.
