KROGER BRINGS $36 MILLION INVESTMENT AND 175 JOBS TO LENOIR CITY’S TOWN CREEK PARKWAY
Mayor Tony Aikens announced that a new Kroger grocery store is coming to Lenoir City, marking a major development for the Town Creek Parkway corridor.
Located near SouthEast Bank and across from the newly established Lowe’s, the $36 million project will serve as a commercial anchor and feature additional outparcels designed to attract secondary retail shops, restaurants, and services.
Key Project Details
-
Investment: $36 Million
-
Job Creation: 175 total positions (75 full-time and 100 part-time)
-
Incentive: A $36,241 Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement over nine years supporting surrounding infrastructure improvements, including sidewalks and street lights.
Community and Economic Impact
City officials emphasize that the development will significantly benefit the local community:
-
Education Funding: With 75% of local sales tax revenue directed to Lenoir City Schools, the new store provides a dependable revenue stream for students and teachers.
-
Tax Stability: Expanding the commercial tax base helps fund essential public services while keeping property taxes low for local homeowners.
Mayor Aikens expressed gratitude to Kroger, the Lenoir City Council members who supported the project, and Economic Development Director Jack Qualls for their efforts in bringing the development to fruition.
