The Lake Tansi Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own following the passing of Patrolman John Nesteruk, the agency announced.

Nesteruk joined the Lake Tansi Police Department in January 2023, bringing decades of experience to the community after a long and distinguished career with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. Despite having already completed a full, remarkable career in law enforcement, Nesteruk chose to continue his public service in Tennessee, dedicating his remaining years to protecting local residents.

Department leadership remembered Nesteruk as much more than just a police officer, describing him as a mentor, a trusted friend, and a steadfast advocate for both the agency and the community he called home.

“His experience, wisdom, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him,” the department said in a statement. “His contributions to the Lake Tansi Police Department and the community we serve will not be forgotten.”

The department extended its deepest condolences to Nesteruk’s family and friends, asking the public to keep his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

In a final tribute to their fallen colleague, the department stated: “Rest easy, John. Thank you for your service, your friendship, and your unwavering commitment to others. We have the watch from here.”
