LAST NIGHT’S ACCIDENTS ON I-40 RESULT IN ONE FATALITY
As the rain moved in last night shortly after 8:30 p.m., it wasn’t long before multiple accidents occurred on Interstate 40 eastbound in the area. One crash, involving a motorcycle and a car, resulted in a fatality just inside the Loudon County line near the 366 mile marker, east of the Lenoir City/Milton Hill Dam exit. Traffic was reduced to one lane and, at one point, completely stopped until the scene was cleared around 10:30 p.m. We hope to have more information on that incident as it becomes available.
Just before 10:00 p.m., another accident involving two cars occurred on I-40 eastbound just past the Harriman exit near the 348.5 mile marker. Emergency vehicles responded, and traffic was again limited to one lane for a time. With the Tennessee Highway Patrol tied up on other crashes, the Roane County Sheriff’s Office handled this incident. One person was transported from the scene to Roane Medical Center with shoulder injuries; no further details were available.
