LATE NIGHT TORNADO LEAVES DAMAGE IN CHICAGO SUBURBS

A tornado touched down in the Chicago suburbs late last night caused damage to homes.

The worst was reported in Naperville and Woodridge, Illinois, about 25 miles west-southwest of downtown Chicago just after 11 p.m., where National Weather Service radar detected a tornado debris signature, an indication of debris lofted by a tornado. At least 12 homes suffered extensive damage in Naperville. Injuries were reported there with one critical.

There was also significant damage in South Haven, Indiana.

Initial reports indicate four people were transported with noncritical injuries to Edward Hospital. There were up to 10 others transported with minor injuries.

As of midnight, ComEd reported that 34,000 customers were without power.

The National Weather Service will conduct a damage survey today to determine the tornado’s path and intensity.
