LAUNDRY BANDIT APPREHENDED AFTER STEALING $100 WORTH OF CLEAN CLOTHES FROM CROSSVILLE LAUNDROMAT

A local woman is facing theft charges after allegedly lifting multiple loads of clean laundry and bedding from a local laundromat, forcing the victims to rewash all their clothes due to the “unhygienic conditions” of the suspect’s getaway vehicle.

On the evening of June 20, 2026, Crossville Police Sergeant Amy Sherrill responded to a theft call at the Wash and Dry on N. Main Street. Two victims reported that they had left their laundry in the dryers for roughly 30 minutes, only to return and find all their clothes and laundry baskets missing.

According to police reports, a witness spotted an older woman loading the victims’ clothing into their baskets, using one of the facility’s rolling carts to make three to four trips out of the building.

The victims searched the area and spotted a gray Astro van parked nearby, where the suspect was actively loading their belongings inside. When confronted, the suspect apologized, claimed someone inside told her she could take the items, and began unloading the clothes before hopping into the back of the van and speeding away.

While the victims managed to recover their property, one noted that she had just spent $100 to wash and dry the large load. Because the suspect’s van—where the suspect reportedly resides—was in highly unhygienic conditions, the victims stated they would be forced to spend another $100 to rewash everything.

Using witness video and prior knowledge of the vehicle, Sgt. Sherrill identified the suspect as Rosie Rector. The victims positively identified Rector from a recent booking photo.

A warrant was issued, and a “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO) alert was broadcasted to the county. A few hours later, at approximately 1:40 AM on June 21, Sgt. Sherrill located the Astro van parked at a nearby Rural King parking lot.

When questioned, Rector and her boyfriend claimed that two random individuals inside the laundromat told them they could take the clothes before they were thrown away at closing time. However, officer reports indicate the business was still clearly open with other customers inside at the time of the incident. The boyfriend also admitted to police that he had warned Rector the owners of the clothing would likely return.

Rector was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, where she was served a warrant for Theft of Property. The case has since been cleared.
