LAW ENFORCEMENT RESPONDS TO REPORT OF POSSIBLE WEAPON AT S.M.H.S.
Cumberland County Schools received a report earlier today suggesting that a student may have possessed a firearm on the grounds of Stone Memorial High School. In response, the school immediately implemented a soft lockdown as a precautionary measure, keeping students and staff in classrooms while limiting normal activities to allow for a thorough investigation.
Law enforcement, including the Crossville Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and representatives from the Department of Homeland Security via the Threat Response Task Force, conducted a comprehensive search and assessment.
No firearm was found, and investigators uncovered no credible evidence that a weapon had ever been present on campus, confirming that students were never in any danger.
The district emphasized that student and staff safety remains its top priority, and it will continue to treat all such reports seriously with prompt and decisive action, while thanking students, staff, parents, and law enforcement for their cooperation during the incident.
