Law enforcement responded Monday to a shooting in Grundy County at 288 Armory Road in Monteagle. They arrived on scene and found 72-year-old Yancie Dee Layne with a gunshot wound to his arm and a 16-year-old teenager shot in the chest. The alleged gunman, 49-year-old Yancie DeWayne Layne of Cookeville, was taken into custody a short time later charged with aggravated assault and two counts of first-degree murder. He is the son of Yancie Dee Layne. Investigators are working to piece together the events that led to the incident. At last report, both victims were in critical condition at a hospital.
