LEFT LANE OF WB I-40 AT MM 286 IN PUTNAM COUNTY STILL CLOSED DUE TO WRECK

The left lane of Interstate 40 westbound remains closed after a tractor trailer crashed into the pillar of a bridge overpass in Putnam County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that the crash happened around 11:46 PM Tuesday night at mile marker 286.

An unidentified driver did receive treatment at a hospital, but that person’s condition remains unknown at this time. THP officials said the bridge may have suffered damage and that experts would begin inspecting the bridge immediately.

The crash scene is expected to be cleared by Wednesday at Noon. Eastbound traffic is not affected. Drivers should use Highway 70 as an alternate route as traffic flow in the westbound lane remains backed up.
