LOCAL AND AREA CROP AND CATTLE REPORT – 8/27/19

Rainfall returned to much of the state, bringing with it slightly cooler temperatures. A few corn producers were able to begin harvesting before the rains put a halt to field work. Soybean and cotton growers continued spraying for insects and applying fungicides. Hay baling continued to be a major activity with farmers working on their second and third cuttings between showers. Pasture and forage conditions improved with the rain and cooler temperatures. There were 5.5 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture was rated 4 percent very short, 24 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated 4 percent very short, 24 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.
