According to bystanders cited by the Deseret News, the incident occurred amid the interaction, though Kirk’s condition remains unknown at this time.

The organization confirmed the shooting to the Associated Press, while a university spokesperson informed the New York Times that Kirk was struck by gunfire from a suspect positioned in the nearby Losee Center, approximately 200 yards away; the suspect, who is not affiliated with the university as a student, has been taken into custody.
