MADISONVILLE MAN FACES ARSON AND ATTEMPTED FIRST-DEGREE MURDER CHARGES

In Madisonville, Tennessee, 43-year-old James Howard Williams faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated arson, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated burglary following a violent incident on Sunday. According to court records, Williams broke into a camper on Brandy Hill Lane, where he screwed the doors shut, trapping himself and a woman inside.
He then poured gasoline on himself and the camper floor, ignited it with a match, and assaulted the woman by striking and strangling her while holding a knife to her. Williams also stole the woman’s purse. A Monroe County Sheriff’s Office officer responded to reports of a break-in and a woman screaming, observing Williams exiting the camper with a knife. After ordering him to drop the weapon, the officer took Williams into custody.
