MAJOR FIRE ENGULFS FORMER LUMBER YARD TURNED RV STORAGE FACILITY IN ROCKWOOD

UPDATE:
A fire broke out at Freedom Storage on South Gateway Avenue in Rockwood, with emergency calls coming in around 4:00 p.m. Firefighters remained on the scene until approximately 8:30 p.m. to battle the blaze.
One individual—a renter, not the owner as initially thought—was injured and transported by ambulance to Roane Medical Center. From there, the person was airlifted via LifeStar to UT Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition this evening.
No other injuries were reported. During the response, Gateway Avenue was closed to through traffic, and firefighters laid a hose across the road to access and extinguish the fire.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Just before 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, a major fire broke out at the former Scanlon Lumber Company site, which had been converted into an RV storage center.
The blaze prompted a large response from multiple fire agencies across the county to assist Rockwood Fire with the incident. Two sheds were reportedly engulfed in flames, along with several RVs, and the fire involved multiple explosions at the scene. Thick smoke was visible for miles from the location on South Gateway Avenue as crews from various departments converged to battle the blaze.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
